As you are probably aware, the new SOLAS regulation covering verified gross weight comes into effect as from the 1st July, 2016. Essentially, all containers being exported must have their weight verified by one of two methods prior to being allowed to load on to a vessel.

This is the Shippers’ responsibility and a shipping document (for example a weight certificate produced by a weigh station utilising calibrated and certified equipment), must be communicated to the shipping line in time for it to be used as appropriate prior to cargo being loaded to any vessel to which the SOLAS regulations apply.

Circular 1475 issued by the IMO giving fuller information has been added to our website for your perusal and this will be updated as and when more details are known.
